Foreword

If someone would ask me why I thought it necessary that I write this "yarn" I am not at all sure what I would say. It really isn't a great story that just has to be told. There is the very real possibility that no one will read the darn thing but at least I will give them the opportunity.
I have known for years that my children did not know what I did in my profession. They knew what my title was and where I had an office but they had no idea what I was paid to do. When I was growing up, I knew exactly what my Dad did for a living. I worked with him and knew intimately just what he faced each day and where our money came from on which we lived. I think it makes a difference in attitude on the part of children when they know and appreciate the efforts of parents.
My children lived in an all together different environment than the one I grew up in and maybe they will be interested in reading something about mine. At any rate, I will give them a chance.
Now when I started this thing I never intended to cover the water front. I had no intention of including all the aspects of our family life. As I thought about doing this, I hoped to include only some of the incidents that I experienced as I went along and most of the best remembered aspects of my jobs. There is no intent to leave any one out or include anyone in for any reason except as they bear upon my job or as they are involved in some episode that I am trying to describe.
It may sound a little selfish but that is the only way I could handle the job. It isn't easy to put all this "stuff" down on paper so if you don't like it-don't read it.
